My name is Fate Mays, and many
of you may
know me as a judge from
the other side of the table. But, let me
tell you why I am qualified to be your next President of
TICA.
I joined TICA and began exhibiting
in 1982. Over the years, I have served as the South Central
Regional
Director and have exhibited six International winners:
one Abyssinian
and five Persians.
I have a Bachelor of
Science and a Master
of Arts in Criminal Justice, and a second Master of Arts in
Counseling.
I am a Licensed Professional
Counselor (LPC). I retired after 30
years as the Director of Supervision Services for Nueces County
Adult Probation, where I held various positions including: public
relations
officer, Program Manager for the Pretrial Services Unit, and Director
of the
Adult Boot Camp. I also have taught at
two universities as an Instructor in Criminal Justice and as an
Instructor at
the Regional
Police
Academy.
With this educational background and these professional skills, I am
able to
effectively communicate. I believe open communication increases
TRANSPARENCY
within any organization.
I wrote the grant to
fund, operate, and
serve as Program Manager of the Pretrial Services Unit for the county
with a staff
of 21. Later, I
wrote the grant to
build, operate, and manage the 24 hour Adult Boot Camp serving felony
offenders
with a staff of 30. The Boot Camp had an operating budget in excess of
one
million dollars annually. TICA is a business and currently has a staff
of 17
that I am prepared to effectively oversee, as needed. I also reside
less than
two hours from the Executive Office of TICA.
I believe in the mission
statement of TICA
which encourages its members to be responsible owners and breeders of
cats who
work together to promote the preservation of pedigree cats. I have
previously
served as the Chair of the Persian Breed Committee and currently serve
as Vice
President of The International Feline Foundation, that funds and
researches feline
health related issues. I believe that TICA should continue to track and
register new and existing breeds for the complete accuracy of all
pedigrees.
Other goals that I would like
to pursue
include:
- increasing the number of finals
awarded by
Judges for classes larger than 25 entries,
in increments of 15, by one additional award
- to
receive input from members that are directly affected before the
appointment of
the Judging Administrator, the Clerking Administrator and any future
Interim
Regional Directors
- to work towards the
computerization of judges
and/or clerking books at shows that can be readily forwarded at the end
of the
show to the EO for scoring.
I
am
fully prepared to serve YOU, as the next President of TICA. Together
let’s move TICA
forward. Thank you
for voting for the “FATE” of TICA!
